DWI School Director
The English DWI School will be on three Thursday nights of each month unless a Holiday or scheduled vacation should interfere.
The purpose of the DWI School is to reduce the number of repeat offenders. Statistics show that in New Mexico, DWI is a serious problem. Our hope is that DWI Students will change in drinking and driving behavior as a result of having the opportunity to raise their awareness in regard to severity of the problem. If you were sent to the DWI School by Magistrate Court, you will have a limited number of days from the original court date to complete the school. The fee for this school will be $175.00 (CASH). If you fail to complete as ordered by the Court then you will be referred to the Court and action will be taken by the Court. It is to your advantage to complete within that time limit in order to be able to drive again in 90 days. This school meets at the Artesia Community Center, located at 612 N. 8th Street. You can call (575) 637-9469 or (575) 208-1655 x10706. The class will be held at 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. from three consecutive weeks. In the event that you should miss one of these classes, you will have to start over the following month and pay the $175.00 fee again. This school provides 12 hours of instruction. You are to complete this school in the month that you start the school. We expect you to sign in at 5:45 p.m. on each day that the class is to be held. The fee must be paid prior, or on the day the first class is to start. Please be prompt and do not come to class with alcohol on your breath because you will not be allowed to stay, the fee will not be refunded. I have a breath test in class to determine dismissal from the class.

You will also become more aware of your attitude about drinking and driving. You will determine how attitude affects your driving behavior. A personal action plan will provide you a plan of action when the school is completed. During this course you will see a movie, "Second Chance" that will implement discussion in regard to DWI issues and the serious nature of driving while intoxicated. There will be group discussion, lecture, films, and you are expected to take part in all activities. You will need to complete all the assigned work given in your work book.
