The BOCC has approved the property tax rates for 2019. The Eddy County Treasurer's office has made a pie chart that gives a snapshot of just where your property tax dollars go. (Find link to 2019 Taxes Pie Charts at bottom.)
We like to provide this to taxpayers who misinterpret who is getting the money when taxes are paid, most think the county keeps 100%. Typically the school districts get the majority of the money collected. Something to keep in mind when voting on school bonds. Often they will say voting “yes” will not raise your property taxes, but fail to mention that a “no” vote would mean they would decrease.
If you own property in Eddy County, please make sure you are getting all exemptions you may be eligible for, such as a Head of Household exemption, which can save you money each year. If you want to inquire about exemptions, please contact the Assessor’s office at (575) 885-3813 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Tax bills will be mailed out no later than November 1st. If there is anything my office can assist you with, please feel free to call or email me or Carolyn Stroble. Thank you and have a great day!
