1. What are your office hours?

CARLSBAD OFFICE Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

ARTESIA OFFICE     Monday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.  ~ Tuesday through Friday 8 a.m. - 12:00 noon

3. How much will it cost to record a document?

Many factors go into figuring filing fees for documents. For example: The type of document you are recording, the number of grantors, grantees, or legal descriptions listed in the document important when calculating recording fees. See the fee schedule or call the Clerk's Office for a price quote.

4. Is there a Probate Judge available?

Jay Francis, Probate Judge   Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 3-5:30 p.m.. No appointment is necessary.

NOT IN OFFICE on Wednesday or Friday.

5. Are records available online?

Index records will go live on March 11, 2019  images are not yet available.

6. What form of payment do you accept?

We accept cash or checks. When applying for a Marriage License CASH ONLY.

7. What is required to file a document in the Clerk's public records?

Depending on the type of document requirements may vary; however, all documents must be an original or a certified copy from another agency, and must have a proper notary acknowledgement, with the word 'acknowledged" in the notary statement.

8. Does New Mexico issue marriage license to same sex couples?

Yes, after the New Mexico Supreme Court ruling in 2014 all Counties in the State began to issue licenses to any couples who met the requirements set out in statute.

9. Are there liens filed against my property?

The staff of the Clerk's Office is not licensed or bonded to do a title search. We recommend you contact a Title Company to research the property in question.

10. How current is the list of recorded documents?

The list of documents recorded is current up to 6:00 p.m. the previous day.
